Birth Art at First Steps

For the past several months we have been offering Birth Art classes at the First Steps office. Birth art is a great way to explore our feelings and beliefs about the childbearing year. Pregnant moms and expecting fathers say that it is relaxing and fun. Families create art that they can use in labor to help focus, and remind them of their journey towards becoming parents. Are you interested? Do you have experience with Birth Art?

We start each session with pain coping techniques and go on to create art that expresses personal images about birth. We are even doing belly casting!

These projects are based on Birthing From Within which was conceived and developed by Pam England, MA, CNM, a home birth midwife and mother who, inspired by her own birth experiences, developed an innovative, holistic approach to childbirth and postpartum preparation..

This is what some parents are saying:

“Brilliant”
“The sense of community helped to calm our fears and share our experience with other pregnant families.”

Check out the photos section of the website to see birth art in action.
